Only a few days remain prior to the Dawson County 4-H Market Beef Weigh Day, Saturday, February 13. 4-H’ers that haven’t located all their project animals should be wrapping up their search for calves in the 700-1,000 pound range, said Dawson County Extension Educator, Bruce Treffer. Some sources 4-H’ers use to find their calves are relatives’ herds, neighbors, local sale barns, feedlots, etc.
All Dawson County 4-H Market Beef must be tagged and weighed on the 13th to compete in the Dawson County Fair, the Nebraska State Fair or Ak-Sar-Ben. DNA will also be collected on calves destined for State Fair or Ak-Sar-Ben. The Weigh Day will be held at the Darr Feedlot, 42826 Rd 759, Cozad. Calves may be processed anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The Market Beef project continues to be a very visible part of the 4-H program, Treffer said.
