Do you enjoy FFA activities and have a passion for agriculture? Are you ready for an exciting career in Agriculture? If so, UNL’s Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication Department (AgLEC) could be just the place for you! AgLEC students enhance their leadership skills and abilities through classroom experience, hands-on activities, and professional shadowing.  AgLEC offers four programs to help meet your career goals and interests.

• In Leadership, you will be prepared for a variety of careers such as: marketing, public relations, and community relations to career areas in leadership and management (such as consulting, management positions, and human resources). You will also specialize in an area of your choice.

• Next with Education/Teaching, you will be prepared to become certified to teach and in the educational system and to teach others about a variety of topics related to agriculture. You also will be primed to work in agricultural extension, positions in foreign service, and as educators in business, industry, and the community.

• The third area is Journalism.  In this area you will learn the skills to work in journalism and communications.  Reporting, editing, working with public relations, advertising, and media are just a few of the careers you can pursue. As an Ag. Journalism major you will train on state-of-the-art computer equipment in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications.

• The newest addition to our program is Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management.  HRTM prepares you for careers in nature-based tourism, agri- tourism and parks and recreation.  Preparation in leadership, hospitality, business and communications will provide a strong foundation for opportunities such as, tourism development, marketing, park mangers, eco tour operators, naturalists and environmental educators.

These are just a few ideas of what our programs have to offer for more in or if you have questions, please contact Alyssa Smola at asmola2@unl.edu.
