The Sutton FFA Chapter

Sutton FFA members spent nine days during August and September helping Dean Griess harvest grapes from his vineyard.  According to Dean, this year's crop was excellent.  Members were responsible for picking the grapes, loading them into buckets and unloading them into the walk-in cooler.  On September 15th, chapter members hosted elementary students to discuss farm safety.  The elementary students watched demonstrations on farm chemicals, ATV safety, combine safety, and Hydraulics and PTO safety.  Each demonstration lasted fifteen minutes.  Additionally, the members of the Sutton FFA Chapter helped decorate the downtown on Saturday, November 28th.  Members placed decorations around the business district helping prepare for the community parade of lights.
Thirty-one members attended the State FFA IMPACT Workshop on October 5th at Hastings CCC. The theme of the day was “The Perfect Recipe”—helping students discover their personal strengths, talents and ways to serve through FFA. The Nebraska State FFA Officers developed the workshops for FFA members.
Fifteen members of the Sutton FFA attended National FFA Convention in Indianapolis from October 20th- 24th.  Kayla Korb was part of the 92 member National FFA Band.  Kelli Green and Brittany Stone were among the 82 members selected to the National FFA chorus.  The Sutton FFA chapter received a three-star rating in the national chapter award program.  National Proficiency Award Results include Samantha Overturf receiving a silver in Vegetable Production entrepreneurship and Ashley Nunnenkamp receiving a bronze in Agricultural Sales and/or Service entrepreneurship.  2009 American Degree recipients from the Sutton FFA include Ashley Nunnenkamp, Lance Gemar, Cory Griess, and Stephanie George.
