Meet the specialists

A chance to meet two University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension Specialists and answer producers’ crop insect and disease questions  in a coffee shop atmosphere will be Wednesday, Feb. 24 from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at It’s Our Place Restaurant, 917 Illinois in Sidney and on Friday, Feb. 26 from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at Wanda’s Café in Hemingford.

Jeff Bradshaw, UNL Extension Entomologist joined the staff at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center in Scottsbluff in January. Participants will get a chance to meet Jeff and learn about his interests and plans for studying crop insects in the Panhandle.

Bob Harveson, UNL Extension Plant Pathologist will be on hand to share information about plant diseases, including wheat, dry beans, corn and other crops. Several plant diseases occurred  during the 2009 growing season because of above normal precipitation. Bob will discuss what happened last year and how to plan ahead for 2010.

Expiring Conservation Reserve Program Land: Alternatives and Options

Your CRP contract is expiring. What are your options?

Topics include: transitioning to organic production, insurance on CRP, early land preparation on expiring acres, continuous CRP and perimeter fencing, CRP conversion options, considerations before using CRP for grazing and/or haying, returning to a cropland rotation, panel discussion including producers, UNL & NRCS personnel.
