Cleaning Lawn Furniture

Susan Hansen, Extension Educator Colfax County

Yes, snow is still on the ground but warmer days are on their way (I hope).  Once spring is here, the lawn furniture starts coming out.  Chances are the furniture will need to be cleaned.  This cleaning may be as simple as putting out in the sunshine to air out or hosing down with water.    Others may need to be cleaned with water and a mild detergent combined with a plastic scrubber or sponge.

Check also to see if there is any mold.  If so, mold will need to be killed using a chlorine bleach and water mixture.  Clean the items outside in the fresh air and use gloves when applying.  For the plastic furniture, apply the chlorine bleach mixture and then rinse off.  If the furniture is made of cloth, test the chlorine bleach solution in an out of the way spot to see if the chlorine affects the color.
