Hastings to Host State Championship Rodeo

Hastings has been chosen to serve as the host site for the Nebraska State High School Finals Rodeo through 2012.

The Adams County Fairgrounds has been the home of the high school championship event for the last eight years, which is held annually in June.

Co-chair of the finals for the fairgrounds, Judy Mignery, said the rodeo committee is happy the high school event is returning.  “It brings a large economic impact to the area, and some of the students even have chosen to go to college here.  We are so fortunate to have so many people help out that our event has a family feel to it.”

Tom Hastings, president of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce, said, “We’re very excited about them coming to Hastings through 2012.  The one thing that always impresses me about these young people is how kind and conscientious they are, and how well-behaved they are.  I think they enjoy this venue and the community enjoys that they’re here and love to have these young people” in Hastings.

The event brings about 160 high school cowboys and cowgirls, plus their families, to Hastings for five days.

The Nebraska High School Finals Rodeo is the culmination of 26 regular season rodeos; the top thirty contestants in each of ten rodeo events qualify for the state finals. The top four winners in each event go on to qualify for the National High School Finals Rodeo, held in July.

This year’s state championship will be held June 23-26.  For more information, visit www.adamscountyfairgrounds.com or call 402.462.3247.
