JC_LS161 Jefferson City, MO Fri Nov 21, 2008 Mo Dept of Ag-USDA Market News Southwest Missouri Show-Me-Select Replacement Heifer Sale Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, MO 11/21/08 Receipts: 299 Year Ago: 194 Coordinated by Missouri Show-Me-Select Replacement Heifers, Inc., Southwest Missouri Beef Cattle Improvement Association in cooperation with University Extension, Commercial Agriculture Program, Division of Animal Sciences, MU College of Veterinary Medicine, the Missouri Cattlemen's Association and the Missouri Department of Agriculture. All heifers in the sale have met minimum standards for reproductive soundness, pelvic size, body condition and weight. They have also under- gone a comprehensive health program, and were guaranteed bred to easy calving bulls. Several were synchronized and artificially bred. Projected calving dates were given for all lots with all heifers expected to calve from mid-January thru April 30. The offering was screened for blemishes, muscle, frame, body condition score (BCS), and disposition by a screening committee, consisting of official graders from the Missouri Dept of Agri- culture and USDA, then sorted into lots according to calving dates and sim- ilar body types. There were 41 percent of the heifers artificially bred,52 percent were naturally bred with 7 percent mixed AI and natural about 75 percent of the heifers were black or black white face. The AI bred heifers averaged 98.00 dollars more per head than natural bred heifers. The quality, type and condition of the offering was good. The sale was well attended with several producers in the buyers category but they adjusted their to corres- pond to the price trend of the rest of the cattle industry. Sale average for the 299 head was 1069.00. Replacement Bred Heifers: Large 1 2nd and 3rd stage 1160-1320 lbs most 1050.00-1250.00 per head, couple pkgs. 3rd stage 1300.00-1350.00, 1380 lb indiv. 3rd stage 875.00. Large 1-2 2nd and 3rd stage 1180-1265 lbs 925.00-1125.00 per head. Large 2 2nd and 3rd stage 1105-1230 lbs 900.00-1000.00 per head. Medium and Large 1 2nd and 3rd stage 1040-1195 lbs 1050.00-1250.00 per head. Medium and Large 1-2 2nd and 3rd stage 965- 1160 lbs most 925.00-1175.00, several attractive pkgs. 3rd stage 1300.00 1475.00. Medium and Large 2 2nd and 3rd stage 875-950 lbs 825.00-900.00.
